How Twin Cities AutoSpot Used Mitchell 1 ProDemand to Save $1,200 and Their Reputation

GMC CanyonFor mobile electronics shops, dealing with dealerships can sometimes feel like an uphill battle—especially when it comes to warranty claims and electrical diagnostics. Fortunately, Twin Cities AutoSpot of Burnsville, Minnesota, had a secret weapon when they found themselves in the hot seat: Mitchell 1 ProDemand.

The Problem: A Dealership Points the Finger

Twin Cities Auto Spot LogoA customer brought their 2024 GMC Canyon into the dealership after their check engine light came on. Initially, the dealership diagnosed the issue as a ride control switch failure and replaced the part. But when the issue persisted, they changed their story.

Instead of looking deeper into the problem, the dealership blamed Twin Cities AutoSpot, claiming that the dash camera installation burned out the Body Control Module (BCM). They insisted that the camera wiring was tied into fuse F14, a 15-amp fuse that powers the BCM, and that the incorrect installation caused the failure. The dealership then informed the customer that this damage wouldn’t be covered under warranty—leaving someone on the hook for a $1,200 repair bill.

The Investigation: ProDemand to the Rescue

Knowing their work was meticulous and safe, the owner of Twin Cities AutoSpot immediately went to inspect the truck. When he arrived, he found the dash cam fuse tap lying on the floor—it had a 10-amp fuse, not a 15-amp. The dealership technician quickly changed their tune, saying, “Oh, it was actually F18.”

Not convinced by their shifting explanation, he took the case back to the shop and pulled up the Mitchell 1 ProDemand wiring schematics.

The Breakthrough: Proof in the Wiring

The ProDemand schematics confirmed:

  • F14 (15A) provides constant power to the BCM.
  • F18 (10A) is a switched power circuit for the ride control and other components.
  • Twin Cities AutoSpot correctly used F18 for the dash cam installation.

In other words, the dealership made a faulty assumption. They saw an aftermarket install, immediately jumped to conclusions, and wrongly blamed the shop.

The Resolution: Dealership Backs Down

Armed with this clear, indisputable evidence, Twin Cities AutoSpot put together a detailed email outlining the findings and sent it to the customer. The customer printed it out and brought it in.

Faced with the undeniable proof from ProDemand, the dealership had no choice but to backpedal.

“OK, sir, we will cover this under warranty this time.”

The Takeaway: Why Every Shop Needs Mitchell 1 ProDemand

Without Mitchell 1 ProDemand, Twin Cities AutoSpot would have had no way to defend their work and protect their customer. They could have been forced to cover an expensive repair or—worse—damaged their reputation by appearing responsible for something that wasn’t their fault.

Thanks to ProDemand’s detailed and reliable wiring schematics, the truth came to light, saving $1,200 and proving once again why every mobile electronics shop needs access to factory-grade repair information. While some of this information may be available online, Mitchell 1 ProDemand is a 100% trusted source that gets its data directly from the manufacturer. It provides the exact same information that dealerships rely on, ensuring that shops have access to the most accurate and up-to-date details for diagnostics and repairs.

If you run an installation shop and don’t yet have Mitchell 1 ProDemand in your toolkit, this is your sign to change that.
